Hey guys, so today’s author spotlight is on Whitley Cox. Her 2 part Love, Passion and Power books release today and they are awesome. Be sure you read all the way to the bottom for buy links. Lets show her some love. Like, share, follow and buy lol.
Let me start with a note first. Hey Whitley, loving book 1 so far and can’t wait to get back to reading it. You guys are probably aware that I try to review the book on release day so you can get my feedback on it and so I can help my spotlight author as much as possible. Unfortunately, I had a death in the family and that has really put me behind. So I apologize to you, Whitley, for not being able to review for you today. And I apologize to you guys as well. As soon as I finish both Love, Passion and Power books, I will post the review for you.
So let’s get to know Whitley. She is an amazing person and author.
Who are you and where did you come from (and no you can’t say from your mother :)?
I’m Whitley Cox, and I hail from the West Coast of Canada. I’m an island baby born and raised.
Mother, father, younger brother. And now I’m married to a sexy scientist and we have a beautiful two-year-old daughter and a fluffy-butt dog.
Psychology and English. I have a B.A. in psychology, but I taught English in Indonesia and have worked with children on the Autism spectrum and with other special needs.
Do you write part-time or full-time, and if part-time are you trying to build up your writing career to be full-time?
Well…as part-time as my kid allows me to. I write when she naps and has gone to bed. And then on Saturdays I go sit in Starbucks for four hours while the Small Human and her dad have a daddy-daughter date day. So, part-time. I want this to be my career. But I also want a family and to be able to stay home with my kid(s), so it’s all about finding a balance.
What kind of work do you do, if you have another job?
Full-time stay-at-home mom
Where do you write? (Paint us a picture…laptop or pc…inside or out…house or condo/apt…do you have music on…do you dance around (naked or clothed? lol)…do you talk out loud to your characters…do you use props…are the neighbors convinced your crazy?
We live in a condo and I sit on the couch with my laptop, wearing clothes. On Saturdays I go to Starbucks, put my headphones in and write, but most of the time it’s at home on the couch with the dog next to me and my laptop on my lap.
What is the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of research?
Craziest? Well… I write a lot of dirty sex so…
I will say that nearly every single one of my books has some thread of non-fiction to it. Either things that have actually happened to me, conversations I’ve had, things I’ve done. I’m sure most writers pull from their everyday life, so maybe I’m normal.
I did write a book about a rookie female cop so I interviewed a retired female cop, but I wouldn’t call that crazy.
What genres do you or will you be writing for?
Contemporary Erotic Romance with BDSM elements, darker moments and storylines all with mild suspense. That’s not to say there aren’t some laugh-out-loud moments as well. I am writing a Christmas romance right now and it will ere on the lighter side of things, no kink, no suspense, no darkness, it’s Christmas after all, so it’ll be much more light-hearted and whimsical.
(Did you see that you guys? Whitley said whimsical…how can you not love her? 🙂
So I know some authors work on a book for years and it might change considerably from where it started, but the bones of it are still the same. And some authors never share their 1st book with anyone. What was the 1st book you wrote and is that the 1st one published or are you still hiding it somewhere?
Ah, good question. The first book I wrote is actually going to be my third and fourth published book. I wrote a book, didn’t think it was going to be anything besides one book, but then holy moly, I fell in love with a bunch of secondary characters and realized I needed to give them their own story. But…those secondary characters were already happily married in the first book, so I needed to write their story and make it five years earlier, so even though I wrote James and Emma first, Justin and Kendra’s story is being published first. And then of course I fell in love with more characters and suddenly I have a ten book series.
I am very prolific in my writing which lead to a five book series being turned into a ten book series. Low and behold the first book I wrote (book 3 and 4 of The Dark and Damaged Hearts) was a whopping 250K words, your average romance is 40-80K words. So, I decided to chop each book in half and now I have 10 books, 10 hearts over 10 years. Five couples in total, but each couple gets two books.
What is your favorite cocktail? (Please share the recipe)
Sorry, I’m a wine girl to my core. My dad makes wine, and I’m not talking kits, I’m talking he orders the grapes up from California, built a crusher and de-stemmer and does it all himself. It’d be sacrilege for me to say anything different. I like a nice Malbec or a Pinot if I’m going to be picky. But, if I must name a “cocktail” well, vodka, club soda with a wedge of lemon, simple, refreshing, very few calories and it keeps away the scurvy.
(am I the only one that really wants a bottle of dad’s wine?)
Which character is the most like you and how?
I’m most like Emma, who is in Sex, Heat and Hunger. A lot of her body image issues and the way she thinks about herself are issues I struggled with, thoughts I had growing up. I’ve added to it of course, made it more angsty and dark, but in a lot of ways, she was me. And now, as an adult, I’m most like Amy in True, Deep and Forever, she’s blunt, feisty and real ball-breaker. But in reality there is a little bit of me in each of my heroines.
If I helped you hide the body, who would you kill and why? (Of course I meant one of your characters lol)
Oh crap, I had a list of like thirty politicians all lined up for this answer…a character? Hmmm
Well, I’d want to kill either Pastor Nelson (he runs a cult, he’s not a good guy) in Raw, Fierce and Awakened (coming 2018), or Tom Hunter in Sex, Heat and Hunger (coming March 29, 2017).
What do you have coming up the rest of this year (book signings, groups, releases, conventions, etc.)?
I’m honestly not that big into conventions, I’d do a book signing or a reader event, but conventions aren’t my thing. We’re a young family just starting out, my husband is days away from getting his Ph.D. so in all honesty flying to a convention and spending the money on a hotel and whatever else is not in the financial cards for me at the moment. We are practical people almost to a fault, and to me a convention is just not valuable use of my time or money.
I’m joining FB parties when I can and group and promo events but at the moment time is very precious and the little free time I have (time not spent with the beautiful Small Human) is spent writing or doing business aspects of writing.
Any other books planned? When are the next ones due for release?
I have over 20 other books “planned” all tucked away in various folders on my laptop.
March 29th -Sex, Heat and Hunger: Part 1
April 29th- Sex, Heat and Hunger: Part 2
Other 2017 Releases – Dates TBD
True, Deep and Forever: Part 1
True, Deep and Forever: Part 2

Anything else you would like for us to know about you or your work?
My brand is: For the Curious Kink in all of Us so I write for the everyday woman. Nothing in my books will ever send you or your partner to the ER. It’s all just about stepping outside of your comfort zone to spice things up in the bedroom. As I like to say, it’s just regular, everyday people doing filthy things to one another.
